I attained fluency by studying German and living in Germany for nearly six years. On a personal note, I still speak German in the home, even though I am now based in the United States. My mother tongue is (U.S.) English.
My own career as a translator
began in 1989. I was an exchange student in Konstanz, Germany, and getting that
essential "real-life experience" as a waitress. One day, a customer
admired my command of German and insisted that he bring me a typewriter
to translate a brochure for his company. After finishing a graduate degree in
German, I joined the technical publications department of a German pacemaker
company. This in-house experience solidified the skills I gained during my early
years of freelancing and ultimately was the springboard for founding
.
I now have the pleasure of working with a network of other colleagues. Together, we produce excellent translations that are ready for print and appropriate to the customer's audience.
